Almalexia

Almalexia is a fictional character from the game Morrowind, one of the three living Gods of the Tribunal Temple.

Legendary Origins

From various sources, it can be inferred that, prior to Nerevar, Almalexia was a figure of authority among the Chimer. It is written that she had a great number of different lovers, although the most important of these was certainly Nerevar Indoril, the Hortator of the Chimer. As wife of Nerevar, she was one of his chief advisors, and thus, when the Battle of Red Mountain ended and Nerevar died, she rose to power. Although the Temple maintains that she was born a god, Ashlander tradition states that she murdered Nerevar in the ritual to summon Azura, and, using Kagrenac's Tools and the Heart of Lorkhan, ascended to godhood.

Warning: Contains Spoilers of plot in Morrowind: Tribunal

Almalexia, over time, became increasingly mad. Although she was always one of the most visible Tribunes, she became increasingly isolated. Near the end of The Third Age of Tamriel, Vivec feared that she would attempt to murder him. She succeeded in killing Sotha Sil in his Clockwork city. When the Nerevarine came to Mournhold, Almalexia (who hid her madness at the time) asked him/her to do a number of tasks for her so that she could strengthen her hold of the city. Almalexia later lied to the Nerevarine by saying that Sotha Sil had gone mad and needed to be stopped, and s/he (the Nerevarine) was the one to do it. The Nerevarine was transported to Sil's Clockwork City by Almalexia to do this task, When Nerevarine finally reached Sotha Sil he dicovered that he had already been grusomely killed. As s/he turned to leave Almalexia revealed her true self, and her treachery, and attempted to kill him/her. Almalexia revealed that she intended the Nerevarine to die in the attempt to reach Sotha Sil. Almalexia would then claim that the Nerevarine and Sotha Sil died in mortal combat, but that the Nerevarine pledged him/herself to Almalexia with her dying breath. With the Nerevarine supposedly martyred in her name, Almalexia would become the dominent Goddess of the Tribunal. Speculation remains as to whether she would then have attempted to kill Vivec, the other surviving member - Vivec himself seemed to think so. However, during the final battle in the Clockwork City, the Nerevarine proved to be Almalexia's downfall as s/he emerged victorious. Azura greeted the Nerevarine directly after and congratulated the Nerevarine of his/her victory and told him to defend the people and land of Morrowind and to embrace his destiny.

Almalexia's death remains unacknowledged by the majority of Morrowind, although notably believed by Vivec, King Helseth of Mournhold and his mother, so she is still worshipped as a god by the Dunmer. However, her worship will likely decrease as the news of her death becomes more widely accepted.
