In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Battle of Sector 001 was the Federation's second major battle against the Borg Collective. Circa stardate 50893.5 in 2373, long-range scans from space station Deep Space 5 detected the Borg destroying the Federation colony on Ivor Prime. A fleet of Starfleet ships was assembled in the Typhon sector under the command of Admiral Hayes, planning to intercept the Borg cube traveling to Earth, and engaged in a running battle from the Typhon sector to Sector 001 itself. Intership communication during the battle was broadcast on Starfleet frequency 1486. From initial contact with the fleet until it arrived at Earth, the Borg cube faced many Starfleet ships, including:

  • USS Appalachia (NCC-52136)
  • USS Bozeman (NCC-1941)
  • USS Budapest (NCC-64923)
  • USS Defiant (NX-74205)
  • USS Endeavour (NCC-71805)
  • USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E)
  • USS Excalibur (NCC-26517)
  • USS Lexington (NCC-61832)
  • USS Rabin (NCC-63574)
  • USS Thunderchild (NCC-63549)
  • USS Yeager (NCC-61947)

During the battle, Admiral Hayes' flagship was destroyed, forcing Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the starship Enterprise to take command of the fleet. Using his knowledge of the Borg Collective, Captain Picard ordered the surviving fleet to fire simultaneously at a seemingly non-vital sector of the Borg cube. At least one Steamrunner class starship was lost in the explosion of the cube. As the cube exploded, the Borg launched a Borg sphere that travelled back in time to 2063 in an attempt to stop first contact between Earth and Vulcan.

The movie Star Trek: First Contact chronicled the beginning and end of the battle.
