As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 21,534 people, 6,525 households, and 4,919 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 895.0/km² (2,318.2/mi²). There are 6,716 housing units at an average density of 279.1/km² (723.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 46.25% White, 12.71% Black or African American, 1.05% Native American, 11.15% Asian, 0.85% Pacific Islander, 20.18% from other races, and 7.82% from two or more races. 38.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,525 households out of which 45.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% are married couples living together, 17.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.6% are non-families. 18.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.27 and the average family size is 3.70.
