Botetourt County is a county of the state of Virginia. At 2000 the population was 30,496. Its county seat is Fincastle6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,414 km² (546 mi²). 1,405 km² (543 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 30,496 people, 11,700 households, and 9,114 families residing in the county. The population density is 22/km² (56/mi²). There are 12,571 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.91% White, 3.52% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 11,700 households out of which 32.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.80% are married couples living together, 7.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.10% are non-families. 19.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
