Template:Politics of the Czech Republic The Czech Social Democratic Party (Czech: Česká strana sociálně demokratická or ČSSD) is the Social Democrat political party in the Czech Republic.
After 1989 for the first time the party formed the government in 1998, under the leadership of Miloš Zeman, and is still in power now.
It won the elections of 2002 with 70 of 200 representatives in the lower house of the Czech Parliament. Its member Jiří Paroubek is the Prime Minister, heading a coalition with two smaller parties, the Christian Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People's Party and the Freedom Union-Democratic Union. The current chairman of the party is Stanislav Gross whose predecessor Vladimír Špidla resigned in 2004.
