Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (IATA airport code GDL) is an airport that serves Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, located 16km south of the city centre.
Guadalajara's International Airport is composed of 4 runways and 2 terminals, and is Mexico's second most important airport, after Mexico City's, providing service to multiple destinations in Mexico, North, Central and South America and Europe. Guadalajara International Airport is the major hub of Mexicana Airlines, also is an important connecting point for flights from Mexico City to the United States.
The airport is named for Miguel Hidalgo, the instigator of the war that brought independence for Mexico from Spain. He has been called the "father of Mexican independence".
The airport is going under major construction, incluiding the expansion of terminal 1, among others, and the huge construction of terminal 3.
