Duck Hill is a town located in Montgomery County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 746.

Geography

Duck Hill is located at 33°37'55" North, 89°42'53" West (33.631875, -89.714655)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 746 people, 307 households, and 201 families residing in the town. The population density is 279.6/km² (720.8/mi²). There are 331 housing units at an average density of 124.1/km² (319.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 36.06% White, 63.27% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 307 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% are married couples living together, 16.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 33.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the town the population is spread out with 30.3% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 81.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 69.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $24,118, and the median income for a family is $29,375. Males have a median income of $26,731 versus $17,639 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,550. 21.4% of the population and 18.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.3% of those under the age of 18 and 32.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
