Frankfort is a village located in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 10,391.

Previous spelling

Frankfort's name was never spelled "Frankfurt" even though it was named after Frankfurt on the Main Germany. It was commonly known as "Frankfort Station" after the opening of the Joliet & Northern Indiana Railroad through the township in 1855. The local residents incorporated as a village in 1879. After that it was simply known as "Frankfort."

Geography

Frankfort is located at 41°29'53" North, 87°50'58" West (41.498133, -87.849549)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 28.3 km² (10.9 mi²). 28.3 km² (10.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 10,391 people, 3,418 households, and 2,942 families residing in the village. The population density is 367.7/km² (952.7/mi²). There are 3,580 housing units at an average density of 126.7/km² (328.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 93.86% White, 2.48% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.62% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 2.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,418 households out of which 42.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.6% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.9% are non-families. 12.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.26.

In the village the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $83,055, and the median income for a family is $89,645. Males have a median income of $66,147 versus $36,179 for females. The per capita income for the village is $33,968. 2.3% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.6% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
