Fremont County is a county located in the state of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 11,819. The county's county seat is Saint Anthony, Idaho6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,910 km² (1,896 mi²). 4,835 km² (1,867 mi²) of it is land and 75 km² (29 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.52% water. The southern part of the county cover the northeast tip of the Snake River Basin, with the mountains of the continental divide forming its northern boundary. Montana lies to the north, and Wyoming to the east. A portion of Yellowstone National Park reaches into the county.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,819 people, 3,885 households, and 3,030 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (6/mi²). There are 6,890 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.41% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 5.94% from other races, and 1.56% from two or more races. 10.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,885 households out of which 39.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.90% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.00% are non-families. 19.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.96 and the average family size is 3.43.

In the county the population is spread out with 33.10% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 24.70% from 25 to 44, 20.40% from 45 to 64, and 12.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 105.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $33,424, and the median income for a family is $36,715. Males have a median income of $26,490 versus $19,670 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,965. 14.20% of the population and 10.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.40% of those under the age of 18 and 13.60% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
