George County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 19,144. Its county seat is Lucedale6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,253 km² (484 mi²). 1,239 km² (478 mi²) of it is land and 14 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.10% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,144 people, 6,742 households, and 5,305 families residing in the county. The population density is 15/km² (40/mi²). There are 7,513 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (16/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 89.38% White, 8.82% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 1.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
