Georgi Sedefchov Purvanov (Bulgarian: Георги Седефчов Първанов) (born June 28, 1957) has been the President of Bulgaria since January 22, 2002. He is in favour of Bulgarian membership of NATO and the European Union. He identifies himself as a socialist. He became president after defeating his predecessor, Petur Stoyanov, in the November 2001 presidential election.
