Grand Lake is a town located in Grand County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 447.

Grand Lake is located at 40°15'2" North, 105°49'28" West (40.250492, -105.824323)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

The photograph to the right shows Lake Granby in the foreground and Shadow Mountain Lake in the background. Both the town of Grand Lake and the lake itself are hidden from view behind Shadow Mountain - the forested ridge to the right of Shadow Mountain Lake. North America's Continental Divide runs along the horizon in this photograph.

Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Lake are manmade reservoirs created by dams on the Colorado River. Grand Lake, which is connected to Shadow Mountain Lake by a short channel, is the largest natural lake in Colorado. All three lakes are part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, which diverts water under the Continental Divide from the western (Pacific) slope to the eastern (Atlantic) slope.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 447 people, 219 households, and 121 families residing in the town. The population density is 181.7/km² (472.5/mi²). There are 748 housing units at an average density of 304.0/km² (790.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.20% White, 0.67% African American, 0.89% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 2.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 219 households out of which 21.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% are married couples living together, 3.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.7% are non-families. 35.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.02 and the average family size is 2.60.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.8% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 35.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 124.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 122.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $45,096, and the median income for a family is $55,750. Males have a median income of $30,833 versus $26,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $34,676. 7.0% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.4% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
