Gulf Hills is a census-designated place located in Jackson County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 5,900.
Geography
Gulf Hills is located at 30°26'3" North, 88°49'33" West (30.434065, -88.825794)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 20.9 km² (8.1 mi²). 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.08% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 5,900 people, 2,199 households, and 1,662 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 300.5/km² (778.7/mi²). There are 2,436 housing units at an average density of 124.1/km² (321.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 81.64% White, 10.61% African American, 0.19% Native American, 5.83% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. 2.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,199 households out of which 34.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
