Hartville is a village located in Stark County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,174.

Hartville lies halfway between Akron and Canton, at the intersection of two main roads, Ohio Route 43 and Ohio Route 619. While Hartville is geographically quite small, Hartville has seen a major increase in commercial development in recent years, and is the largest commercial center in the northeast part of Stark County.

Hartville is located at 40°57'44" North, 81°20'23" West (40.962207, -81.339822)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²). 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,174 people, 863 households, and 579 families residing in the village. The population density is 458.7/km² (1,186.2/mi²). There are 902 housing units at an average density of 190.3/km² (492.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.39% White, 0.28% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 863 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the village the population is spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $41,012, and the median income for a family is $47,411. Males have a median income of $34,821 versus $22,679 for females. The per capita income for the village is $19,362. 9.2% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.7% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Transportation & Shopping

Originally a small country village, growth in Hartville has largely came from families living in the city, drawn by the attraction of a simpler life. And while Hartville still has some farm land, the vast majority of it has been utilized to house the more than eager families. Even before Hartville’s boom years, Hartville had a number of regional attractions, namely The Hartville Kitchen (http://www.hartvillekitchen.com), famed for its home style of cooking as well as a Flea Market every weekend. Hartville’s youth is served by the Lake Township school district. Today, Hartville's main commercial district encompasses the entire stretch of Hartville's portion of OH-619.
