Yo Hitoto

Yo Hitoto (一青窈 Hitoto Yō, born September 20, 1976) is a Japanese popular music singer born on September 20, 1976. Her mother is Japanese and her father is Taiwanese. She can speak three languages: Japanese, English, and standard Mandarin Chinese.

She completed kindergarten in Taipei before moving to Japan, and she has lived there ever since. She graduated from the department of Environmental Studies of Keio University. She has been attending the Keio University a cappella singers group K.O.E. since her days as a student. She used to have live concerts on the street with her partner of K.O.E. before she met Youichi Kitayama, a member of the famous Japanese a cappella group The Gospellers. Mr. Kitayama encourages Yo Hitoto to compose. She had sung as a back-up singer for several music artists before this.

To date, Yo Hitoto has released five single CDs and two albums. The five single CDs are "Morai naki" (もらい泣き), "Da-jia" (大家), "Kingyo sukui" (金魚すくい), "Edo Polka" (江戸ポルカ) and "Hanamizuki" (ハナミズキ). The title of her albums are "Tsukitenshin" (月天心) and "Hito-omoi" (一青想).

Yo Hitoto's debut single, "Morai naki" propelled her into stardom. Her songs are very popular among many generations. Her clear voice and way of singing, which is compared to the style of folk songs of Okinawa, attract many people.

In Taiwan she has been known for singing a Taiwanese folk song as part of a beer commercial.
