Description: This view of a portion of the lunar surface was photographed during Apollo 16's 63rd revolution of the Moon. Gassendi crater is featured in the scene. Principle point coordinates are located at 17.5 degrees south latitude and 35.3 degrees west longitude.
The view is from the eastern sector of the visible Moon looking southwest. The mare in the foreground is Mare Fecunditatis, and the smaller mare above is Mare Nectaris. The unusual crater pair of Messier and Messier A are visible to the lower right, with the double rays that point to the west. The oval crater in in the upper right of Mare Fecunditatis is Goclenius. To the upper right of Goclenius is the overlapping Gutenberg crater formation.
