Lime Springs is located at 43°26'58" North, 92°16'52" West (43.449578, -92.281226)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 496 people, 220 households, and 144 families residing in the city. The population density is 187.8/km² (487.8/mi²). There are 243 housing units at an average density of 92.0/km² (239.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.39% White, 0.00% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 1.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 220 households out of which 29.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.81.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 25.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $33,750, and the median income for a family is $39,063. Males have a median income of $30,000 versus $21,776 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,706. 5.9% of the population and 5.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.5% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Events

Sweet Corn Day is the festival of the year in Lime Springs, held on the second Sunday in August (August 8 in 2004). The day features free sweet corn and a gigantic parade. Other events are held on Saturday, so the entire weekend is a fun-filled time for the entire family.

A Lime Springs High School Homecoming & Reunion will be held on August 6, 2004. The High School burned in 1960, so the youngest graduates are over 60 years old --- but a well attended reunion will be held! Numerous class reunions will be held over the weekend and a great program, featuring the 75-voice Reunion Chjorus, will be held Friday evening in the gym.
