Los Cerrillos, New Mexico

Los Cerrillos is a census-designated place located in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 229. Accessible from State Highway 14, Los Cerrillos is on the road from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, closer to Santa Fe. Visitors to the town may stop at the Rock Shop/Petting Zoo/Museum where they can buy samples of various rocks, minerals, and other naturally occurring curiosities, feed chickens, peacocks, goats, and llamas, and tour the Museum of Northern New Mexican History, which contains artifacts from the old west days, and cardboard cutouts of characters from the film Young Guns, which was filmed in and around Los Cerrillos.

Geography

Los Cerrillos is located at 35°26'14" North, 106°7'36" West (35.437160, -106.126711)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 229 people, 111 households, and 59 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 63.6/km² (164.5/mi²). There are 129 housing units at an average density of 35.8/km² (92.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 79.04% White, 0.00% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 16.16% from other races, and 3.93% from two or more races. 50.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 111 households out of which 21.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.3% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.8% are non-families. 41.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.06 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 17.9% under the age of 18, 2.2% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 33.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $13,661, and the median income for a family is $31,161. Males have a median income of $30,446 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,215. 18.4% of the population and 25.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
