Martin Hattersley

J. Martin Hattersley (born November 10, 1932) is a long-time activist in the Canadian social credit movement. Born in Swinton, Yorkshire, England, Hattersley moved to Alberta in the 1956 where he worked as a lawyer. His parents met at a social credit conference in Britain.
From 1962-1964, he was director of research of the Social Credit Association of Canada, and personal secretary and speechwriter to Social Credit Party of Canada leader Robert N. Thompson, MP.
Following the party's failure to win any seats in the 1980 general election, he became leader of the party from 1981-1983 resigning after the party refused to expel members accused of anti-Semitism.
He was also interim president of the Social Credit Party of Alberta from 1985-1988, and has been president emeritus since then.
