North Hartsville is a census-designated place located in Darlington County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,136.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.8 km² (4.9 mi²). 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.02% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,136 people, 1,226 households, and 886 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 249.1/km² (645.8/mi²). There are 1,406 housing units at an average density of 111.7/km² (289.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 75.89% White, 21.56% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.31% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 2.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,226 households out of which 33.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% are married couples living together, 14.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.7% are non-families. 24.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,016, and the median income for a family is $47,566. Males have a median income of $43,967 versus $25,186 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $22,376. 15.4% of the population and 12.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.2% of those under the age of 18 and 15.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
