Pittsford is a town located in Rutland County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,140.
Pittsford was first settled as a frontier town in 1769, about 60 miles from Bennington. It is the location of two historical picket forts used by the militia during the American Revolutionary War: Fort Mott (built in 1777), and Fort Vengeance (built from 1780 to 1781), about a mile north.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 112.8 km² (43.6 mi²). 112.6 km² (43.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,140 people, 1,284 households, and 876 families residing in the town. The population density is 27.9/km² (72.2/mi²). There are 1,388 housing units at an average density of 12.3/km² (31.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.08% White, 0.22% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
