According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 40.4 km² (15.6 mi²). 33.4 km² (12.9 mi²) of it is land and 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.31% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 28,507 people, 9,731 households, and 8,105 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 853.2/km² (2,209.7/mi²). There are 9,945 housing units at an average density of 297.7/km² (770.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 92.45% White, 3.29% African American, 0.18% Native American, 2.77% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,731 households out of which 40.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.7% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% are non-families. 13.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.17.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $87,472, and the median income for a family is $93,923. Males have a median income of $65,742 versus $40,061 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $34,985. 2.2% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 3.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
