The Shorenstein Company, LLC, is one of the United States' largest and oldest privately owned real estate firms, owning interests in, or managing, some 20 million square feet (2,000,000 m²) of office space. 7 million square feet (650,000 m²) of their space is in San Francisco, California, making it one of the city's largest office landlords.
Founded by Walter Shorenstein after World War II, the company is now owned by his son, chairman and CEO Douglas Shorenstein. The President of the company is Glenn A. Shannon.
Starting in the Spring of 2000, Shorenstein began installing screens displaying Internet content in elevators in several of their most recognizable properties including Bank of America Center in San Francisco, First Union Financial Center in Miami, and the John Hancock Center in Chicago. The content is from Captivate Network, Inc., and includes news, weather, stock quotes, and traffic reports.
