Sonia Belmont

Sonia Belmont of Castlevania Legends
Sonia Belmont is the star of the Castlevania game Castlevania Legends. Until the release of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Sonia was at one time considered the earliest known Belmont chronologically, but Leon Belmont has now taken that title. However, Sonia was the first Belmont to actually personally fight and defeat the Count Dracula, and the second to wield the Vampire Killer whip.

Sonia Belmont lived during the mid 15th century. At some point before 1450, she met and formed a bond with Alucard Tepes. When the two got to be very close, Alucard finally revealed to her his true nature and intentions; that he wanted to kill his father for good.

Sonia then revealed to Alucard her intentions, that she was a vampire hunter and intended to do the same thing. The two broke things off, as Sonia insisted on her going to take on Dracula. However, the two would meet again as Alucard fought with Sonia, testing her abilities. After taking so much damage, Alucard found her more than worthy, and from there on, stayed out of her way so that she could meet destiny face on, defeating Dracula.

After Sonia defeated Dracula, Alucard put himself to sleep, much to the dismay of Sonia. Afterward, the people of Romania feared Sonia's power, and banished the Belmonts from their land.

Family relations

Somehow, Sonia Belmont is related to Leon Belmont, who lived around 400 years earlier.

It is said that through her relationship with Alucard, Sonia gave birth to Trevor Belmont, which could explain why Alucard was more than willing to help Trevor during his own adventure in the game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.

It is worth noting that in producer Koji Igarashii's version of the Castlevania timeline, the events of Castlevania Legends never occurred and thus, the character of Sonia Belmont never existed. However, many Castlevania fans disagree with Igarashi's revised version of the timeline and accept the character as part of the series' canon.
