St. Martin's College

St. Martin's College is an institution of higher learning in Lacey, Washington that offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of academic disciplines.
Founded in 1895 by monks of the Benedctine Order, St. Martin's began offering college-level courses in 1900, began granting degrees in 1940, and began accepting women in 1965.

St Martin’s College was first established at Lancaster by the Church of England in 1963. The College is an Accredited College of the University of Lancaster. Until the 1980s the bulk of the College’s work was in teacher education, but diversification of its academic portfolio began in the late 1970s with the development of a modular studies honours degree scheme. An important new development for the College in the late 1980s and the 1990s was its expansion into health-related work. In 1991, the school of Radiography at the Lancaster & Morecambe College was transferred to St Martin’s and in April 1995, the Lakeland College of nursing and Midwifery merged with the College. During the 1990s the College significantly expanded its honours degree and taught post-graduate programmes, and this process continues to be consolidated.
Since 1996, the College has also delivered initial and continuing professional development teacher education, sports and outdoor studies and other modular studies courses from its Ambleside campus (the former Charlotte Mason College), located in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
The opening of a third main campus in Carlisle in 1998 allowed the College to expand its health-related and teacher education provision and to further develop its Single and Combined Honours programme.
The College also delivers teacher training courses in the East End of London, and is accredited as an Investor in People.
The nature of the College’s academic portfolio reflects the major professional thrust of its work. The main activities of the College are in teacher education and training, health-related disciplines and the delivery of its vocationally focussed Single and Combined Honours Studies programme. The faculty structure of the College has recently been reviewed (implementation August 2002) and reflects this three-fold division of the College’s major disciplines:
