Strawberry Point is a city located in Clayton County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,386. Strawberry Point is home to the world's largest strawberry (made of fiberglass).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,386 people, 531 households, and 347 families residing in the city. The population density is 261.0/km² (677.7/mi²). There are 560 housing units at an average density of 105.5/km² (273.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.21% White, 0.00% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 531 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 25.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 86.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $34,766, and the median income for a family is $45,268. Males have a median income of $30,300 versus $21,289 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,400. 5.9% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.3% of those under the age of 18 and 11.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
