TOKIO

ja:TOKIO

TOKIO is a Japanese popular pop/rock band from the Johnny’s Entertainment Company in 1994. It is made up of five boys, starting from Sony Records, now from Universal Music Company. The group members (from the youngest to the oldest) are: Tomoya Nagase (長瀬智也 Vocal, B.November 7,1978), Masahiro Matsuoka (松岡昌宏,Drums, B.January 11,1977), Taichi Kokubun (国分太一,Keyboards, B.September 2,1974), Tatsuya Yamaguchi (山口達也,Bass, B.January 10,1972), and Shigeru Joshima (城島茂,Guitar, B.November 17,1970).

"Tokio" is an old romanization in English of the city Tokyo in Japan.

It is said that TOKIO is the only group which could sing, dance, make music and lyrics, and play instruments in the POP world. They have started as a band with their debut single, “LOVE YOU ONLY.” Since then, they have produced 12 albums and 19 singles, including their up-coming new single, “Trangista Girl (トランジスタGガール)”, and their recently released “Ambitious Japan”, which had become an image-song for the JR NOZOMI shinkansen.

The year 2004 has become their special year. It is the 10th year since TOKIO was formed. They have participated in various TV shows; the most recent ones are “Manhattan Love Story” played by Masahiro Matsuoka, and “She is dead. (彼女が死んじゃった。)”, by Tomoya Nagase. The group has their own TV programs as well, including “Gachinko (ガチンコ)” and “Iron-arm DASH (鉄腕DASH)”. Unfortunately, they have not taken part in movies. Meanwhile, Masahiro Matsuoka is the director for TOKIO’s music promotion videos, and hw himself says that he would love to make a movie someday with all the TOKIO members.
