Units
"24.8 million Btu / short ton" -- could someone give a metric conversion?
- Tracked down an SI value, and also performed the conversion. Both agree.
Phrasing
Am i wrong or in the following sentence
"Coke may be burned with little or no smoke under combustion conditions which would result in a large amount of smoke were bituminous coal the fuel."
there is a grammatical mistake? Thanks, Paolo
- No, this usage is grammatical, but uncommon and apparently confusing. I will change it. Pekinensis 02:26, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Usage of Coke
Coke was actually originally used to produce iron in China sometime during the Sung dynasty (approx. AD 1000). This obviously predates the European uses of coke by quite a bit. If nobody else wants to incorporate this, I will probably be able to at some point in the next couple of weeks. Nickpub 10:13, 11 April, 2005 (UTC)

1642 - who?
"This process was not put into practice, however, until 1642, when coke was used for roasting malt in Derbyshire.". By whom? Any details - sources - for this? A name would be very useful. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 11:12, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
