Talk:Edmund Kirby Smith
From Academic Kids
An event mentioned in this article is a June 2 selected anniversary
Shouldn't the name actually be "Edmund Kirby-Smith" (hyphenated)? That's the usage at Sewanee, and it's on his tomb. --Spewey 14:14, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I searched through the ORs and couldn't find any correspondence or orders from him that used a hyphen. Hal Jespersen 01:20, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
(Confederate) Army of the Potomac
It looked like a mistake to mention EKS as part of the Army of the Potomac in July, 1861. This is generally the name of the main Union army. Further investigation reveals that this was briefly the name for the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.
- I fixed the link. This was an early army that was incorporated into the Army of Norther Virginia along with other forces. Hal Jespersen 20:30, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Rewrite
I rewrote this article because it was not in the typical format for a Wiki Civil War bio (which are normally presented in chronological order), but also because it was in copyright violation from http://www.civilwarhome.com/ksmithbio.htm. You can't just copy text from websites unless they are known to be in the public domain, like National Park Service battle descriptions or Fox's Regimental Losses.
