Talk:History of Vietnam

This article is so gay that I will be very wary of trusting Wikipaedia in future. There is no mention of Dai Co Viet's conquest by the Chinese Empire ca. 200, which led to the king being given Tonkin as a consolation. There is neglect of the long-term enmity between Tonkin and Annam - the Nguyen dynasty came to power in Annam and Cochin a long time before the Tayson revolt, which led to the Annamese conquest of Tonkin. There is no mention of the food shortages in NVN after 1954, nor of the flow of refugees south, nor of the plebiscite and election which legitimized the Diem government. There IS mentioned the "election" justification for the NVN conquest of SVN, a justification which only came up after the U.S. started trying to help SVN against the invasion - which started in 1956, as I read that year in my parents' newspaper. There is neglect of the general democracy of SVN, twice resurrected by revolution when it had decayed into despotism.
- Well...not to sound snippy, but...why don't you fix it then? That's what this place is all about after all :) Adam Bishop 22:32, 20 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Still missing parts of Vietnam's prehistory. I need to start digging.

Why this article does not mention the Third Indochina War (1977-1991)?
- Where is the mention of the Van Lang kingdom? Someone help out with this page! I'm too tired right now...
Removed "non neutral point of view" use of quotation marks to qualify that "democratic" and "religous" advocates are not real advocates but former associates of the SVN government. (Most of the associates of the SVN government are in their 70s and are dying out). This article should be about Vietnam and not about USA politics and historical revisionism. See Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reports on Vietnam if you don't believe me.

No one is really interested in premodern history are they? In the long run, Chinese character, called Chu Nho in Vietnam, names need to be added too.
- To the contrary, for many of us the pre-colonization history of Vietnam is much more fascinating than rehashing the same tired-out, revisionistic, downright boring (by this point) events of the Second Indochina War. --Ryanaxp 16:45, May 24, 2005 (UTC)
