Talk:Hyundai Motor Company

I removed but they are still regularly found to be inferior to those competitors in comparisons in the motoring press. - utter nonsense.

In no more than 30 seconds, I turned up the following:

  • 2003: CNBC India Autocar, Car of the Year: Hyundai Scorpio
  • 2002, CNBC India Autocar, Manufacturer of the Year.
  • 2001 Queensland Car of the Year (Australia) Outstanding Light Car - Hyundai Accent
  • 2000 Queensland Car of the Year (Australia) Outstanding Light Car - Hyundai Elantra GLS
  • 1999, Carguide (Canada) People's Choice Award - Hyundai Elantra
  • 1998, Carguide (Canada) Best Buy award - Hyundai Accent (third year running)
  • 1997 Canadian car of the year, Best New Sports Coupe/Convertible - Tiburon
  • 1997 Motoring Television (Canada), Best new sports car award - Hyundai Tiburon
  • 1996: Carguide Magazine (Canada) Best Buy award: Hyundai Accent (2nd year running)
  • 1996: Automotive Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC),Best New Sports Coupe in Canada: Hyundai Tiburon

(OK, it took me ages to write them up, but that was just the first two pages on Google, and left out ones that didn't look genuine. (i.e., no small-town local rag awards - only majors). PS - I don't own a Hyundai - never have. Don't particularly care about them one way or another. But nonsense is nonsense. Tannin

I don't think hyundai is principally involved in manufacturing automobiles. I've seen their logo on everything from computer chips to beef... maybe the disambiguation page from "Hyundai" should be updated? -66.92.165.41 22:09, 11 Aug 2003 (UTC)

For information on the split, see:

Hyundai Motor Co., the nation's largest car maker, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world's largest shipbuilder, were separated from the group several years ago and managed by Chung Ju-yung's other sons.

Redirect to the Hyundai Group

Hyundai is the name used by some of the companies that was split off from the Hyundai Group in 2001. "Hyundai" and the former Hyundai Group is the same thing. - Jerryseinfeld 19:59, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Pic removal

I thought it reasonable to remove all three existing pics from this article when I loaded in my fresh five because:
- none of the three have any copyright information whatever,
- the uploader can't be contacted because he/she (called Brothering) has no talk page,
- two of the three pics are very small even when clicked on.
For all these reasons, a fresh start seemed OK. - Adrian Pingstone 21:58, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Name

Who what where when why Hyundai? Is it a family name or mean something? Hyacinth 01:05, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Fortune Magazine

The article refers to the Excel being named "best product 10" by Fortune. What the hell does this mean? One of the 10 best products? Or is 10 a rating? I think this is likely a translation error; someone who knows the reference should correct it. siafu 23:12, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

J.D. Power and Associates

In 2004, Hyundai tied with Honda for initial brand quality in a survey/study from J.D. Power and Associates, for having 102 problems per 100 vehicles.

102 problems for 100 vehicles doesn't sound very good at all. Is this accurate? siafu 16:49, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
