In order to complete List of capitals of subnational entities, are there entities/capitals we could include from New Zealand ? Docu 12:43 Feb 16, 2003 (UTC)
- Yes and no. Every local authority has a main office somewhere. City and district websites usually show where the main office is. But NZers don't go for terms like "the capital of Southland" - "chief town", maybe, but that could mean the biggest, and the administrative HQ might not be there. We used to have "county seats" but the last county disappeared in 1995 (after the last of its mates went in 1989) and I've not noticed a "district" equivalent. :robinp Robin Patterson (see user robinp on Zeal - http://www.zeal.com/users/profile.jhtml?uid=58269&view=public - for an indication of my involvement in these matters)
Is there a need for this page to exist separately from the Territorial Authorities of New Zealand? It seems redundant to me. Could they be combined? Bkonrad | Talk 01:09, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- It COULD be integrated, because there's not much more to add to it - someone like to prove me wrong there, please??? - but as there are many pages linking to it we would have a big redirecting task. I'll keep it in mind. :robinp 07:44, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- After further thought, I'd say "YES". These are mostly not territorial authorities. Their regional functions are different, just as central govt's functions are different from theirs. Robin Patterson 03:33, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, "region" and "territorial authority" are formal terms for different tiers in local govt. This should now be clear in both articles. I don't know why this article has the Territorial Authorities box at the bottom - shouldn't it be a "regions" box? Nurg 07:15, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)
