Talk:Swamp cooler

If anyone else wants to add an image, just go up on your roof, open a panel, take a picture, and upload it. Enough with these copyrighted images off the internet.
I feel dumb for uploading the swamp-cooler.jpg image. I assumed (because of the location on my computer) that it was one of the many images I had that were general clip-art and free-to-use images. I think I should be able to just take a picture later this month (when we open up our swamp cooler) and upload it in place of the other image. My bad.
Merge with Evaporative cooling
If there are no objections. I think this article is ready to be merged/moved into this article Evaporative cooling because Swamp cooler is stating to overlap and there still much more to be added on this subject. Maybe someone can beat me to it and just do it. Swamp cooler will then become a REDIRECT. Buster 19:14, Jul 1, 2004 (UTC)
- Strongly object to this. Swamp cooler addresses an aspect of evaporative cooling. As a crude example, articles about ants are not merged with the main article about insects. Swamp Cooling exists to provide information as a sub-set of, or provide a counterpoint to the Air conditioning article. Leave Swamp Cooler as it is, but import information from Evaporative cooling. Overlapping information is fine in an encyclopedia, especially as Swamp cooler provides examples of applied evaporative cooling. Further discussion would be welcomed. --Abqwildcat 20:57, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- OK, I can vaguely see a reason to keep the articles separate but that is reason enough for me. Although, I should have stated my goal originally. It is to to change the name of the swamp cooler article to a more appropriate name. This leaves me with "Evaporative cooler" which doesn't quite cut it, may as well leave as Swamp cooler. I don't really feel more scientific names would be appropriate. Perhaps the Evaporative cooling article can be renamed to something like "Psychrometry" which to use your example of ant/insect is a more appropriate hierarchy and allow a more comprehensive overview of the science of air and humidity. On the other hand the paragraphs on airplane evap cooling seem to fit better on the swamp cooler article. Maybe that should be moved over to swamp cooler. Buster 00:00, Jul 2, 2004 (UTC)
Take away "Cooling towers"
The subject "Cooling towers" deserves a separate article, as it existed before. If needed the HVAC application of cooling towers can be directed to that. MGTom 15:20, 2005 Jan 20 (UTC)
- I agree. This article was primarily about the home and commercial applications of swamp coolers as they're typically called in non-HVAC/cooling plant arrangements. Cooling Towers would be a good link from here, as well as from Evaporative Cooling and from HVAC articles, but deserves its own article. --ABQCat 17:03, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Take a look at the "revived" cooling tower article & improve! MGTom 09:05, 2005 Jan 21 (UTC)
