Titusville is a city located in Brevard County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 40,670. It is the county seat of Brevard CountyTemplate:GR.

Titusville is located at 28°35'28" North, 80°49'12" West (28.591210, -80.819911)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 67.1 km² (25.9 mi²). 55.1 km² (21.3 mi²) of it is land and 12.0 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.95% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 40,670 people, 17,200 households, and 11,094 families residing in the city. The population density is 738.6/km² (1,913.4/mi²). There are 19,178 housing units at an average density of 348.3/km² (902.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.80% White, 12.64% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. 3.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 17,200 households out of which 26.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% are non-families. 29.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $35,607, and the median income for a family is $42,453. Males have a median income of $36,076 versus $23,998 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,901. 12.4% of the population and 9.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.6% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Titusville is home to the Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Canaveral National Seashore, Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum, U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, U.S. Space Walk of Fame Museum, American Police Hall of Fame & Museum, Harry T. Moore Memorial Park; is a gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail; and has many other natural, historical and cultural attractions.
