Universiti Tenaga Nasional

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (also known as UNITEN) is a private academic institution in Malaysia. Its main campus is located in near the city of Kuala Lumpur while a second campus is located in the state of Pahang.

Universiti Tenaga Nasional is a unique institution, providing both academic programmes and engineering technology skills training within the same campus. The university's programmes are focused on engineering, information technology, business management and related areas. Universiti Tenaga Nasional not only prepare its graduates to become knowledgeable and competent professionals, but also to develop them as well-rounded individuals with broad intellectual outlook.

Universiti Tenaga Nasional is one of the first private universities in Malaysia and is wholly-owned by public-listed Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), one of the largest utility companies in South East-Asia.

Universiti Tenaga Nasional commenced operation in 1976 as Institut Latihan Sultan Ahmad Shah (ILSAS), which served for many years as the corporate training center for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and its predecessor, the National Electricity Board.

In 1994, ILSAS was transformed into an institute of higher learning and renamed Institut Kejuruteraan Teknologi Tenaga Nasional (IKATAN). It offered academic programmes in engineering and business management at undergraduate and graduate levels through twinning links with local and foreign universities. In 1997, IKATAN was upgraded to Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

Though relatively new as a university, Universiti Tenaga Nasional is moving rapidly towards establishing itself as the regional center of educational excellence. The support and commitment it receives from its holding company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has enabled it to accelerate the infrastructure development of the campus.
