Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

Excellent editing

Hi AUtiger, your talk page looked kind of empty, so I thought I'd drop you a note thanking you for the excellent editing you've done on age disparity. Your extensive work on volleyball also stands out as particularly beneficial to the Wikipedia. Thanks, and keep up the good work! • Benc • 05:33, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks Benc. I'm pretty new to Wikipedia editing (a little over a month at this point) but I think I've pretty much gotten into a groove now although I may have developed a slight addiction. I endeavor to be bold when I feel I can make a contribution either of additional information, knowledge or insight, or by copy-editing when I see an error or inconsistency that stands out to me. Piedmont Park

Hi, I'm not familiar with Atlanta at all; Piedmont Park was listed as a village in the gay village article, which is why I added it to the category. You may want to change that article as well. Thanks for the heads up! Darkcore 16:41, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Auburn U. Section

Thanks for fixing some of my oopses on the Auburn article. I'm actually currently working on an article going into a lot of detail about Auburn's eagle program, and I'll link that in as soon as I'm done. :)

Hello future neighbor!

I'm moving to Midtown Atlanta all the way from Sacramento, California in mid-December. And from everything I’ve read so far, this looks like it will be a major cultural upgrade. Are there many Atlanta-area Wikipedians that you are aware of? --mav 23:33, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Ram-Man&action=edit&section=new)| talk)

Moving in

Comcast is the ISP and I live in midtown, just down North Street from Bank of America Plaza (aka the 'pencil building'). Things are still a bit hectic right now but I'll tell you after the holidays if I have time for a tour. :) In mid-January there will likely be an informal get-together in Tampa, so maybe we could car pool if you want to attend. --mav 16:32, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ah, you're practically a neighbor! I'm at Fifth St. and Piedmont Ave, just a couple blocks north of North Ave. The Tampa thing is an interesting idea - although I have to be in Orlando for a week for a work conference later in January. What is the date of the Tampa get-together? - jay (autiger)

Your edits to Atlanta, Georgia after 03:45, 19 Jan 2005 UTC

Hi. Unfortunately Sfahey's edit to this article (just prior to your last two edits) resulted in the last few sections (Culture and Recreation onwards) being duplicated. I guess this was yet another consequence of the current flakey nature of the servers. I've removed the duplicated sections. However it is possible that in doing so that I have also removed some of your edits; especially if these were actually made to the second duplex. Perhaps you could check; apologies if so. -- Chris j wood 13:24, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

No problem Chris; I was able to find and re-add the biggest change that was lost without much trouble. Autiger

LGBT people

I wasn't attempting to eliminate the whole category, but merely to group certain entries together under more precise subcategories, to more thoroughly populate some subcategories (Gay writers, lesbian writers, etc.) that already existed, and to create categories that are more transgender-inclusive.

For example, one couldn't add Michelle Josef to a category named just "Gay, lesbian or bisexual people", since she's not, and yet it's entirely appropriate to place her in a context with musicians who are G, L or B, since the issues intersect -- so I created "LGBT musicians". Similarly, "LGBT writers" (which already existed as just GLB) so I could add people like Patrick Califia and Jan Morris, and "LGBT politicians" (which already existed as just GL) so I could add Georgina Beyer and a Japanese woman whose name escapes me at the moment.

But no, my intention was never to get rid of "GLB people" entirely. As for "LGBT rights activists", the fact that not all such activists are necessarily LGBT themselves is precisely why I haven't filed that as a subcategory of "GLB people". (Further edit: Oh, and btw, the reason I used "Gay writers" for Tobias is that there were already distinct categories for "Gay writers", "Lesbian writers" and "Bisexual writers", all of which were subcategories of the catch-all "GLB writers". This strikes me as legitimate, since gay male literature and lesbian literature are inherently distinct phenomena; I added a "Transgender writers" subcategory as well.) Atlanta Photography Request

Hello there! I'm currently working on an article (I know, yet incomplete but give me a week or so) about Oakland Cemetery, which sits at the end of MLK Jr. Drive and is bordered by Memorial Drive (fairly close to the King Memorial Station on the eastbound MARTA line). Oakland is an important landmark in Atlanta, so you can imagine my wanting to write a good article about it for Wikipedia. Of course the article could only stand to benefit from some photographs, and I was wondering if you would be willing to take a few of some notable monuments there? I go to school at GA Tech and am downtown most of the week, so I could accompany you to show you what I had in mind. -- uberpenguin 02:20, 2005 Mar 2 (UTC)

I would be happy to try to get some photos, but I'm slammed this this week/weekend. I know of and where the cemetary is though I admit I've never visited or explored it. In browsing the website, it appears next weekend they will be open for free, self-guided tours of the mauselea specifically which may be a good opportunity to get some shots. Do you have a list of what you wanted? Autiger
Good, I'll compile a list of items of interest. There are quite a few possibilities, so I'll leave it largely up to you as to what you wish to photograph. In the working article, I'm creating a list of items that I will write more about and am marking those that I think would be great candidates for photography with a note beside them. Right now, only three or four items are marked as such, but by this weekend (I'm kinda swamped too, I have an important test this Friday) I should have a complete list of topics, at which point I can give you a series of possibilities. You will be able to ask any of the tour guides where these monuments/burial sites are since the article is largely written from my experience as a guide there, or I can show you myself. Thanks again for the offer to help with this, and I'll post here again once I have a decent list of candidates for photography! -- uberpenguin 05:06, 2005 Mar 3 (UTC)
Okay, I've finished the outline of my article and have a fairly good idea of what would make for good photographs. There are two pictures I would specifically like taken, one of the front gates of Oakland, and another of the Confederate Lion. I've also made a list of monuments I consider of lesser importance that might make nice additions to the article depending on how well you think their photos turn out:
 • Jasper Newton Smith's sculpture
 • Dr. James Nissan's grave - first burial at Oakland
 • Bobby Jones
 • Neal Monument - a nice Neoclassical sculpture
 • Picture of the Union and Confederate graves next to one another (this one might be an interesting picture since the practice was very uncommon, but driven by the influx of dead soldiers during the Civil War)
 • Margaret Mitchell Marsh - author of Gone With the Wind (probably not a good time of year to take this photo, since the Rose bushes won't be in bloom)
 • New Jewish Section - possibly a picture of a more traditional Jewish headstone with Hebrew engraving
 • Original Atlanta Gas Light lamp bearing scars from the bombing of Atlanta in 1864
Well that's what I've come up with for now, as you can see you should have a good choice in what to photograph. Let me know when you think you might be able to spend some time doing all this. Thanks! -- uberpenguin 01:52, 2005 Mar 5 (UTC)
Assuming the weather cooperates, I'm looking at this coming saturday 3/12. Autiger
Great, after doing some writing on the article I've revised my list somewhat, putting the 'better' photograph candidates in bold (I still want the front gates and the Confederate Lion as highest priority). I don't know if I'll be around this weekend, but if I'm not hopefully you will be able to find a volunteer who will show you where all of these can be found.
 • Jasper Newton Smith statue
 • Dr. James Nissan's grave - first burial at Oakland
 • Bobby Jones
 • Neal Monument - a nice Neoclassical sculpture
 • Picture of the Union and Confederate graves next to one another (I really like the idea of this photograph, but I already have determined to use the Lion for the Confederate section... However, I might be able to rework things a bit to make it fit together...)
 • Margaret Mitchell Marsh - author of Gone With the Wind (probably not a good time of year to take this photo, since the Rose bushes won't be in bloom)
 • New Jewish Section - possibly a picture of a more traditional Jewish headstone with Hebrew engraving
 • Original Atlanta Gas Light lamp bearing scars from the bombing of Atlanta in 1864
I just put up the complete article, if you think it would be helpful to read any of it. -- uberpenguin 01:15, 2005 Mar 8 (UTC)

Hey, just wanted to see if you got the chance to go down to Oakland yesterday... Thanks! -- uberpenguin 22:20, 2005 Mar 13 (UTC)

Yep, sure did and took quite a few pics; It was a great day for it. I have to do some editing and selecting before uploading. I might place some raw almost-thumbnails someplace for you to take a look at before I upload to see if you have some you prefer. Autiger
That's awesome! Thanks so much! I'll await your editing and uploading. -- uberpenguin 13:22, 2005 Mar 14 (UTC)
Hello again... Just wondering if you have made any progress? Ciao! -- uberpenguin 03:25, 2005 Mar 23 (UTC)
I got several of the photos placed in the article. I'd like to see if you can crop some off the top and bottom of the Neal Monument picture. I would like to use it, but currently it's far too tall to fit anywhere. -- uberpenguin 23:20, 2005 Apr 10 (UTC)
Second version is uploaded; I shaved what I could off the top and bottom, but it wasn't much. Hope this helps. Image:OaklandCemetery-NealMonument2.jpg -- Autiger
