Bellmawr is a borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 11,262. Bellmawr is home to the main post office for the area, one of the largest post offices in the state of New Jersey. In late October 2001 the office was closed due to possible anthrax contamination (see 2001 anthrax attacks). The office was re-opened several days later, in early November, after testing negative for anthrax.

Bellmawr is located at 39°52'1" North, 75°5'30" West (39.867013, -75.091622)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²). 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.18% water.

Bellmawr borders Barrington, Brooklawn, Gloucester City, Haddon Heights, Mount Ephraim, and Runnemede. Bellmawr also borders Gloucester County.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 11,262 people, 4,446 households, and 3,134 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,435.1/km² (3,715.5/mi²). There are 4,561 housing units at an average density of 581.2/km² (1,504.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 92.79% White, 1.18% African American, 0.06% Native American, 3.05% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.54% from other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. 3.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,446 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.3% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 25.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the borough the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $44,653, and the median income for a family is $53,839. Males have a median income of $38,646 versus $27,050 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $19,863. 4.0% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 5.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
