Brentwood, Maryland

Brentwood is a town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,844. The town was originally incorporated in 1922 and is named after the Brentwood estate built in 1817 by Robert Brent in Northeast Washington, DC.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,844 people, 905 households, and 636 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,889.7/km² (7,511.0/mi²). There are 971 housing units at an average density of 986.6/km² (2,564.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 28.62% White, 49.75% African American, 0.42% Native American, 2.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 15.05% from other races, and 4.04% from two or more races. 23.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 905 households out of which 39.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.8% are married couples living together, 23.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 23.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.14 and the average family size is 3.68.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $45,427, and the median income for a family is $45,244. Males have a median income of $28,563 versus $27,694 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,700. 13.6% of the population and 9.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
