Cascade Charter Township is a charter township in Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 15,107.
The township is situated in the southeastern section of Kent County, approximately 10 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. A defining feature of the township is the Thornapple River, which divides the township into east and west halves. The township was originally a part of Ada Township and was separately organized in 1848.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 90.1 km² (34.8 mi²). 87.8 km² (33.9 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.53% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 15,107 people, 5,394 households, and 4,374 families residing in the township. The population density is 172.1/km² (445.7/mi²). There are 5,638 housing units at an average density of 64.2/km² (166.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 94.55% White, 1.00% African American, 0.28% Native American, 3.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,394 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.1% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.16.
In the township the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $87,290, and the median income for a family is $98,013. Males have a median income of $71,960 versus $37,234 for females. The per capita income for the township is $39,470. 2.3% of the population and 1.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.3% of those under the age of 18 and 3.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
