Eastborough is entirely enclosed within the city of Wichita, Kansas, and relies upon Wichita for many of the services normally associated with a city, such as water purification, sewage treatment and ambulance service.

Eastborough's location near a major shopping center in Wichita (Town East Mall) caused a bit of friction between residents of Wichita and Eastborough in the 1980's through the 1990's as traffic to and from Town East Mall often would go through Eastborough (and be ticketed for exceeding Eastborough's 20 mile per hour speed limit). This was allieviated when Wichita upgraded Kellog Avenue U.S. Highway 54 such that Eastborough was no longer the best route to Town East.
