Forest Hills is an unincorporated community located in Kent County, Michigan, United States. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 20,942.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 131.5 km² (50.8 mi²). 127.9 km² (49.4 mi²) of it is land and 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.70% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,942 people, 7,105 households, and 6,046 families residing in the community. The population density is 163.7/km² (424.0/mi²). There are 7,371 housing units at an average density of 57.6/km² (149.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 95.28% White, 0.64% African American, 0.20% Native American, 2.63% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,105 households out of which 44.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.6% are married couples living together, 4.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.9% are non-families. 12.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.94 and the average family size is 3.23.
In the community the population is spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 29.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
