Georgetown is a town located in Copiah County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 344.

Geography

Georgetown is located at 31°52'16" North, 90°9'51" West (31.871058, -90.164186)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.47% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 344 people, 135 households, and 88 families residing in the town. The population density is 198.2/km² (513.2/mi²). There are 152 housing units at an average density of 87.6/km² (226.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 68.02% White, 29.94% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.87% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 1.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 135 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.7% are married couples living together, 19.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,781, and the median income for a family is $31,000. Males have a median income of $28,958 versus $20,313 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,919. 22.4% of the population and 19.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.0% of those under the age of 18 and 31.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
