Hampton CDP is a census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Hampton located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 9,126.
The United States Census Bureau uses the CDP designation to report separate demographic detail on the main settlement of the town, which is more densely populated than the town as a whole. Geography
According to the U.S. Census, the settlement has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²). 13.9 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.11% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 9,126 people, 3,800 households, and 2,473 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 657.4/km² (1,701.4/mi²). There are 4,020 housing units at an average density of 289.6 persons/km² (749.5 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the settlement is 97.81% White, 0.19% African American, 0.08% Native American, 1.08% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,800 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 34.9% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.93.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.3 males.
The median income for a household is $57,356, and the median income for a family is $71,094. Males have a median income of $50,130 versus $32,468 for females. The per capita income for the town is $30,769. 3.9% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.6% are under the age of 18 and 8.7% are 65 or older.
