Indialantic is a town located in Brevard County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,944.

Geography

Indialantic is located at 28°5'16" North, 80°34'8" West (28.087861, -80.568857)Template:GR. It is situated on the barrier island that separates the Indian River Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. This island, approximately 35 miles in length, stretches south from Cape Canaveral to the Sebastian Inlet (see the Sebastian Inlet State Park). A causeway across the Indian River Lagoon connects the beach community of Indialantic to the more metropolitan city of Melbourne, Florida. Indialantic is neighbored by the town of Melbourne Beach to the south and unincorporated land to the north.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.13% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,944 people, 1,330 households, and 848 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,093.0/km² (2,840.6/mi²). There are 1,467 housing units at an average density of 544.6/km² (1,415.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.32% White, 0.27% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 2.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,330 households out of which 21.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 27.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.72.

In the town the population is spread out with 17.6% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 24.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 46 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $62,181, and the median income for a family is $76,109. Males have a median income of $51,830 versus $30,047 for females. The per capita income for the town is $41,126. 2.3% of the population and 1.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 1.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
