Murder Most Horrid was a British television sitcom starring comedienne Dawn French. It ran for four series runs, in 1991, 1994, 1996 and 1999.
A satire of television murder mystery programs (such as "Murder, She Wrote"), it featured French in a different starring character role in each episode.
Example Episode
(Overkill, 2x01) A desperate social worker prepares to hang herself. As she concludes an audio recording of a suicide message intended for her mother, an assassin (played by Amanda Donohoe) steps into her room and holds her at gun point. Using the recording as blackmail, the assassin forces the social worker to don a special coat that is equipped with various deadly gadgets. The social worker sets out to find the leader of a group that opposes the assassin, and must commit murder several times in her pursuit. When she finally meets the leader, the assassin uses a radio in the coat to announce that the jacket is equipped to explode kamikaze style. The detonator, however, does not work, and both the leader and social worker return to the latter's apartment to confront the assassin, whom they overtake and hold at gunpoint.
The social worker forces the assassin to toss the audio recording out the window onto the sidewalk and to place the noose around her neck. Handing the gun to the leader, the social worker then walks outside and picks up the audio recording.
At that moment, the assassin kills the leader, but in doing so falls from her chair and is hanged. The chair then falls on the detonator, which causes to the social worker, who is still wearing the coat, to explode just as her mother comes around the conner.
The recording device falls on the ground in front of the social worker's mother and starts to play: "Dear mum, if you're hearing this, I'm probably dead..."
