Palo Verde is a census-designated place located in Imperial County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 236.

Geography

Palo Verde is located at 33°25'46" North, 114°43'48" West (33.429419, -114.730094)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 236 people, 130 households, and 60 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 154.4/km² (401.2/mi²). There are 218 housing units at an average density of 142.7/km² (370.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 78.81% White, 0.85% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 14.83% from other races, and 5.51% from two or more races. 19.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 130 households out of which 16.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.4% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 53.8% are non-families. 50.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 33.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.82 and the average family size is 2.63.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 17.8% under the age of 18, 1.3% from 18 to 24, 19.5% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 32.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 55 years. For every 100 females there are 110.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $12,772, and the median income for a family is $14,333. Males have a median income of $13,281 versus $9,792 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $7,275. 47.3% of the population and 44.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 70.7% of those under the age of 18 and 13.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
