Pelican Township is a township located in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 400.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 50.1 km² (19.4 mi²). 20.6 km² (8.0 mi²) of it is land and 29.5 km² (11.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 58.88% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 400 people, 169 households, and 124 families residing in the township. The population density is 19.4/km² (50.2/mi²). There are 464 housing units at an average density of 22.5/km² (58.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.50% White, 0.25% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 169 households out of which 24.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.9% are married couples living together, 1.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% are non-families. 23.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.73.

In the township the population is spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 19.0% from 25 to 44, 33.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 111.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $51,250, and the median income for a family is $60,469. Males have a median income of $36,750 versus $26,250 for females. The per capita income for the township is $24,495. 7.7% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.3% of those under the age of 18 and 10.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
