Administration
Sallaumines is located in the Pas-de-Calais départment. It belongs to the communauté d'agglomération of Lens - Liévin (Communaupole) which gathers 36 communes, and has a population of 250,000 inhabitants.
History
The history of the area remains marked by the mining disasters known as of Courrières which made 1099 dead on March 10, 1906 on the territories of Billy-Montigny, Méricourt and Sallaumines.
Geography
Its nearby communes are Méricourt to the southeast, Avion to the southwest, Lens to the west, Loison-sous-Sens to the north, Harnes to the northeast and Montigny-en-Gohelle to the east.
Transportation
It is linked by the A21 to its west and northeast. It is passed by route N43.
