Streamwood, Illinois

Streamwood is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 36,407.

Streamwood, along with Bartlett and Hanover Park, is one of the three communities that make up the so called "Tri Village" area.

Geography

Streamwood is located at 42°1'14" North, 88°10'24" West (42.020627, -88.173409)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²). 18.9 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.41% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 36,407 people, 12,095 households, and 9,409 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,925.6/km² (4,989.0/mi²). There are 12,371 housing units at an average density of 654.3/km² (1,695.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 77.53% White, 3.84% African American, 0.29% Native American, 8.64% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 7.06% from other races, and 2.61% from two or more races. 16.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,095 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% are non-families. 17.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.99 and the average family size is 3.41.

In the village the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 37.3% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $65,076, and the median income for a family is $68,771. Males have a median income of $43,699 versus $32,826 for females. The per capita income for the village is $23,961. 3.0% of the population and 2.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.2% of those under the age of 18 and 4.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Schools

The village is primarily served by Unit School District U46. A small subdivision east of Barrington Rd. is served by School District 54 (Kindergarten thru Junior High) and Township District 211 (High school.) The village is also served by and falls entirely within the boundaries of the Elgin Community College District.

Parks and Libraries

The village is primarily served by the Poplar Creek Library District and the Streamwood Park District. Residents east of Barrington Rd. are served by the Schaumburg Township District Library and the Schaumburg Park District. Residents who live west of Rt. 59 are by the Gail Borden Library District in Elgin
