The University of Bath was established in 1966 on Claverton Down, Bath, England, since when around 50,000 students have graduated. Today it is one of the United Kingdom's leading universities, ranking consistently within the top twenty universities in major UK league tables. As of 2005, it is ranked 12th overall in the Guardian university guide and 13th overall in the Times (Source (http://www.bath.ac.uk/news/articles/campus/timestable270505.html)). Bath is a member of the 1994 Group of UK universities, a group with common aims, standards and values. The business school is accredited by the elite AMBA. The University of Bath has declared its intention to become an elite university (in terms of quality, not exclusivity), with particular strengths including postgraduate teaching.

Location
The main campus is located in a purpose-built development on Claverton Down, two kilometres from the United Nations designated World Heritage City of Bath. The university's major academic strengths are the physical sciences, mathematics and technology, but the University of Bath is becoming increasingly strong in management, humanities and social sciences.
Academics
According to the latest government assessments, Bath has 14 subjects rated 'excellent' (the highest on the scale); these are: Architecture; Business and Management; Civil Engineering; Economics; Education; Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation, Sport and Tourism; Mathematics, Statistics and Operational research; Mechanical Engineering; Molecular Biosciences; Biosciences; Pharmacology and Pharmacy; Physics and Astronomy; Politics; Social Policy and Administration. Sports
In addition, the university hosts the training of some of the UK's top Olympic athletes. In November 2003, the University of Bath opened the first phase of its massive new sports complex, the English Institute of Sport for South West England. Facilities include eight indoor tennis courts, basketball and netball courts, a large gymnasium, in addition to its existing astroturf football pitches, 50m indoor swimming pool, and athletics track. Its football team, known as Team Bath F.C., play in the semi-professional Southern League and in the 2002/2003 season were the first university team to enter the FA cup since 1880, advancing to the first round proper.
Future expansion
The university is also upgrading its campus with new teaching blocks - notably a redevelopment of building 4 West; and plans are being made to extend the greenbelt eastwards to facilitate future expansion. A new campus is currently being developed in Oakfield, Swindon which currently offers part-time and community courses.
